Willam McCaffrey was exonerated in December 2009, after serving four years for a wrongful rape conviction. Will, a soft-spoken construction worker, was 28 at the time he was convicted in 2006 and sentenced to 20 years in prison. In 2009, the victim confessed that she had fabricated the rape story.
Will’s aunt Sally stood by him through his wrongful conviction and his fight for exoneration. And after his release, Will was overjoyed to become a father to his son, Will Jr.
Will, who had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, died on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2018. Like so many others, he never recovered from his wrongful conviction.
